Frequently asked questions

Who are Sew with Confidence?

Sew with confidence was set up during March 2004 by Lynda Swaine and other Brother Consultants from the John Lewis Stores after having unfortunately been made redundant when John Lewis ceased to stock Brother machines.

As the other ex Brother Consultants are now working for themselves in other fields of sewing, I am happily continuing on my own.

It is a private enterprise that was set up to help customers who own Brother Sewing Machines, (wherever purchased) who require help and guidance. I do not work for Brother in an official capacity anymore, but have the full support of Brother for ongoing training on the new machines.

How can “Sew with confidence” help me?

  • It will help you to understand fully, and gain the most potential from your sewing machine. You may not understand the instruction book, and would prefer individual one to one guidance, OR you may not have even got the machine out of the box since purchase. This not unusual – I can help you.
  • It will encourage you to experiment with all the stitches and understand how to use the different attachments that are available for your machine. I can also give you ideas on how to embellish your garments, whether you have made them yourself or they are bought items.
  • It will help you with the embroidery machines, and help you to fully understand the embroidery design software package, so that you can use it to its full potential, and maybe do your own designing. You might want to scan a photograph of a family member and sew this as a picture – I can help you.

I hope I can give you ideas that you may not have thought of and give you lots of inspiration for the future.

This facility is, in essence, set up to give you “confidence” in the use of your machine.

Can you help with other makes of machine – (other than Brother)?

Ask me. I can probably help with the basic features of your machine, but might not be able to help with more advanced features, such as supporting PC software.

My machine is broken. Can you help?

Unfortunately not. Please contact your machine manufacturer directly for machine repairs. I will only demonstrate on electrically sound machines in full working order.

Where are courses held?

I can come to your own home, or you can bring your machine to me. Please ask if you are interested in group tuition, you may have friends who would like to join you in this venture.

OR You can attend one of my regular courses at two separate venues in the South East.

Please see my courses and tuition options pages for information on the courses to suit you.
